Model comparison.
The interaction zone structure of each model, along with the (maximum a posteri) inferred values of model parameters, the -value indicating quality-of-fit between experimental results and model simulations and the log marginal likelihood () of the model calculated from the fine scale dynamics (as shown in Figure 3. -values reported as zero are smaller than numerical precision, i.e). N/A indicates that the model does not include the indicated parameter. The interaction zone indicates whether prawns interact with others in a spatial zone around themselves, which may be oriented either forwards or symmetrically around their centre, or with their nearest-neighbours or globally with all other individuals. Reported parameters are: , the baseline direction-change intensity; , the interaction radius for spatial models; , the number of interacting nearest-neighbours for topological models; and , the strength of interaction with negative and positive prawns respectively; and , the decay factor determining how long interaction effects persist.
