Newly-eclosed females were reared either in social isolation (negative control) or paired with a conspecific female (positive control) for the entire 6-day-long experiment. Other females were transiently paired 6 h daily either in the middle of the photophase or the middle of the scotophase. Some females were transiently paired for 1 or 2 h daily in the middle of the scotophase.
