HT and ET show plausible RER-values at FIO2 = 20.78%. At FIO2 = 78.57% there are incomprehensible values of HT (RER < 0.70), while the ET remains constant. RER < 0.70: An RER of 0.70 corresponds to pure fat burning without accompanying carbohydrate metabolism; a lower ratio of carbon dioxide release to oxygen uptake (the RER) is physiologically not possible. Abbreviations: HT Haldane Transformation, ET Eschenbacher Transformation.
